How it works
- A caller offers a free upgrade or says your SIM will expire.
- They ask for the SIM number or a confirmation SMS.
- Your number moves to their SIM, and your OTPs go to them.
Red flags
- Calls offering 'free 5G' or 'SIM expiring'
- Requests to SMS your SIM's 20-digit number
- Your network suddenly disappearing for hours
Stay safe
- Upgrade SIMs only at your operator's own store or app
- If your signal suddenly vanishes, call your operator and bank at once
- Use app-based authentication where your bank offers it
