SCAM
How it works
- A stranger, or a hacked friend, sends a challan, bill or wedding card as an .apk.
- Installing it grants access to SMS and notifications.
- Your OTPs are read, money is taken, and the file spreads to your contacts.
Red flags
- .apk at the end of a file name
- A challan or invitation sent as an 'app'
- Requests to allow 'install unknown apps'
Stay safe
- Install apps only from the Play Store or App Store
- Keep 'install unknown apps' turned off
- Check challans only on echallan.parivahan.gov.in
Already happened? Act fast
- Call 1930National Cyber Crime Helpline. The sooner you call, the better the chance of stopping the money.
